Morgan Spurlock to Direct One Direction Movie

Now this is a bit weird but Morgan Spurlock – best known for directing documentaries  Super Size Me and Comic-Con Episode IV: A Fan's Hope – is going to helm the One Direction behind-the-scenes documentary (it'll probably have a snappier title than that).

"This is an incredible opportunity and an amazing moment in time for the band," said Spurlock in a statement. "To capture this journey and share it with audiences around the world will be an epic undertaking that I am proud to be a part of."

The film will likely be in the manner of recent pop documentaries centering on Justin Bieber and Katy Perry. But hopefully with the involvement of Spurlock, it might have a slightly different approach. The One Direction movie is penciled in for an August 2013 release.

New Super Mario Bros. 2 DLC Announced

During today's Nintendo Direct broadcast, which focused entirely on the 3DS, the company revealed a new wave of DLC for New Super Mario Bros. 2. Starting today, two new Coin Rush packs will be available to purchase for $2.50 each. Just like the last round of New Super Mario Bros. 2 DLC, each of these packs features three brand new levels.

A level from the Gold Mushroom pack. Clearly.

The first is called Gold Mushroom Pack, and gives players ample opportunity to up their coin count by providing tons of Gold Mushrooms for the collecting. The second, called Coin Challenge Pack B, is also all about the coinage, with a new Ghost House, a rope course and a fierce lava stage for players to enjoy.

This level is on fire! *cringe*

To download these packs, simply go into your game, select Coin Rush mode, then click the Shop icon on the bottom of the page.

PS3: Over 5 Million Consoles Sold in UK

Over 5 million PlayStation 3 consoles have been sold in the UK, Sony has announced.

According to MCV, the company reached the milestone thanks to the 500GB PS3 Super Slim going on sale on September 28, which caused a 138 per-cent jump in sales that week. A 12 GB model is due for release tomorrow.

With the new chassis, and the way the market is panning out this year, PlayStation definitely has the momentum.

Sony UK MD Fergal Gara said, "“It is fantastic that we passed the 5m mark. But most importantly to me is not the milestone itself, but the fact that there is momentum behind it. And with the new chassis, and the way the market is panning out this year, PlayStation definitely has the momentum."

He went on to talk about the future for Sony following a string of new appointments, explaining that he believes the current team of execs are poised to capitalise on the console's recent sale's boom.

“I am pleased with the talent we’ve got on board,” he continued. “You can actually feel the energy going through the business.

"These guys know that they have a lot to do to make sure the Christmas plans are sharp and focused, and they have come to them relatively late. So they are working at a hell of a pace. I can already feel a positive buzz that wasn’t there only a few weeks ago."

Japan Getting Mario & Animal Crossing 3DS XLs

Nintendo has unveiled two new special edition 3DS XL bundles, and they're ridiculously cute.

Both the New Super Mario Bros. 2 and Animal Crossing 3DS editions come bundled with their respective title, and are currently only slated for a Japanese release.

They look incredible (even if the Mario one does look a little bit like Louis Vuitton has tried his hand at console decoration), so it's a shame that they're region-locked. Still, there are a fair few Japanese titles we've been eyeing up lately that don't seem likely to get a Western release date, so it may be worth it for that reason alone.

You can check out the Animal Crossing and Mario special editions in all their glory below.

Luke Karmali is IGN's UK Editorial Assistant and wants someone to buy him the Animal Crossing 3DS XL, please. You too can revel in mediocrity by following him on IGN and on Twitter.

Check Out This Rip Off of Super Mario 3D Land

They say that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, so this iOS rip off of Super Mario 3D Land, '3D Cartoon Land: Safari' is basically an obsessive love letter to Nintendo's iconic plumber.

First spotted on NeoGAF, 3D Cartoon Land: Safari is available for $0.99 on the Apple App Store and is described as 'very simply yet very addicting [sic].'

The screenshots below speak for themselves.

'This unique game requires you to quickly jump over obstacles and collect coins,' the game's description continues. 'But you are not secure in this beautiful cartoon world. An angry tortoise could bite you. An easy and smooth control makes it very funny and to jump or run.'

How the game's creator could describe 3D Cartoon Land as 'unique' and still sleep at night is anyone's guess, but you've got to give him credit for his gumption. For a full description of 3D Cartoon Land: Safari's 'incredibly fun' features, check out the Apple App Store link.

North America's Club Nintendo Presents the Golden Nunchuk

Olympic athletes are wearing gold medals around their necks, Mario and Luigi have become obsessed with gold coins in New Super Mario Bros. 2 and now we're getting one more golden object to pine for – a gold-colored Wii Nunchuk controller. The specially painted Nunchuk has just been added as a new selectable reward to the North American Club Nintendo, which, if you're unaware, is a customer loyalty program run by Nintendo that allows fans who buy enough Nintendo goods to exchange earned points for even more, even rarer Nintendo goods.

The Gold Nunchuk demands 900 of those points be redeemed if you'd like to own it, making it the second-most expensive item currently available. Its lustrous finish is made to match the gold-colored Wii Remote that shipped in a bundle package alongside certain copies of The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword last holiday season. It's a little late in arriving in that regard, as most every Nintendo fan has certainly already played through Link's latest adventure. But perhaps the delivery of a new, matching Nunchuk will encourage some to give the game a second run – perhaps through the game's more difficult second quest, "Hero Mode."

Club Nintendo has also been keeping its lineup of downloadable game rewards rotating fairly frequently as well. Currently you can score either the WiiWare hit Fluidity or the 3DS Virtual Console re-release of Game Boy Golf for 150 points apiece. Stay tuned here to IGN for more news when and if Nintendo paints anything else gold.
