FIFA 13: Match Day Shown Off

EA has revealed details of Match Day, a brand new component of this year's FIFA 13.

FIFA producer David Rutter took the stage at EA's Gamescom press conference to outline some of its key features. Basically, it's aim is to integrate FIFA with the real-life football (soccer) season as it unfolds.

In a brief demo, this unparalleled intertwining was expelined using the final day of this year's Premier League season, when either Manchester United or Manchester City could win the title. Games opened with bespoke commentary, it seemed: Martin Tyler spoke about the significance of the match, and how if Man City won their game they would take the title, regardless of what United did in their game. There were other nice touches, like the commentators name checking the highest scoring player on one of the teams, obviously drawing on real life data accumulated throughout the season.

But Match Day promises to be much deeper than superficial relevance. Player stats will for the first time change depending on how each player performs during the season. Say one play hits a rich vein of form, and starts scoring a hat-trick every week, his vitals will rocket. It forces players to change their team and formation based on real-world developments.

The mode will also highlight prominent fixtures from leagues around the world, allowing you to take part in the drama as it unfolds.

The FIFA 13 demo will be available on September 11.
