The Great Gatsby Moves to Summer 2013

If you were looking forward to seeing director Baz Luhrmann's 3D adaptation of The Great Gatsby this Christmas then we've got some bad news for you. Warner Bros. announced today that they've shifted the release date of the Leonardo DiCaprio drama to sometime during summer 2013.

Dan Fellman, President of Domestic Distribution, said in a statement, “Based on what we’ve seen, Baz Luhrmann’s incredible work is all we anticipated and so much more.  It truly brings Fitzgerald’s American classicto life in a completely immersive, visually stunning and exciting way.  We think moviegoers of all ages are going to embrace it, and it makes sense to ensure this unique film reaches the largest audience possible.”

The holiday 2012 release frame was already pretty packed with Warners' own The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey expected to dominate theaters at that time. Other big December releases include Django Unchained (also starring Leonardo DiCaprio), Les Miserables, Jack Reacher, This is 40, Zero Dark Thirty and the 3D re-release of Monsters, Inc.
