Last Samurai Director Leaves The Great Wall

Edward Zwick (The Last Samurai) has dropped directing duties for the historic epic The Great Wall, from Legendary East.

According to The Wrap, the filmmaker left due to a difference in visions between himself and the producers. The studio plans to move forward on the project, however, and is currently searching for a new director.

Earlier this summer, a decision was made to push the production back from fall to spring to avoid adverse weather conditions. Nevertheless, sources close to the project say finances are still in order for the film.

The first feature for Legendary East, The Great Wall centers on a group of 15th-century British warriors who happen upon the Great Wall of China while it is still under construction. Soon, they realize that there is more to the wall than they originally suspected.

Actors Henry Cavill and Benjamin Walker are attached to star, with Chinese actress Zhang Ziyi reportedly in talks to join them.
