Boston crime novelist Dennis Lehane is bound for Atlantic City.
The Boston Herald reports that the author of Shutter Island, Mystic River, and Gone, Baby, Gone has joined the fourth season of HBO's Boardwalk Empire as a writer and creative consultant. George Pelecanos, a writer who worked with Lehane on HBO's The Wire, has also joined Boardwalk Empire as an executive producer for this coming season.
"They will consult with showrunner Terrence Winter of The Sopranos fame to map out the outline for Season 4, and Lehane said he will be responsible for writing the script for at least one episode," according to The Herald.
Lehane credits his new novel, the bootlegging tale Live By Night, with landing him the gig. “My guess is that someone at HBO read Live By Night and thought it would be a good fit,” Lehane told the paper. “I’m a huge fan of the show so it worked out nicely.”
The Prohibition-era Live By Night is currently in development as a feature film at Warner Bros. as a potential starring vehicle for Leonardo DiCaprio.
