Bond Beats Batman's Box Office

With Skyfall finally hitting U.S. cinemas with a whopping $87.8 opening weekend, the film has also surpassed a landmark in the U.K., being crowned the biggest box office hit of the year thus far.

James Bond’s 23rd adventure – which was directed by Sam Mendes – has grossed £57m in 12 days, surpassing the total of previous 2012 champ The Dark Knight Rises.

That figure also makes it the biggest Bond movie off all time, exceeding the £55.6 made by Casino Royale in 2006.

Responding to the news in a joint statement, Bond producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli said “We are thrilled and proud to reach this box office landmark in record time and are delighted that UK audiences continue to enjoy Skyfall.”

Chris Tilly is Entertainment Editor for IGN and wants Sam Mendes to direct every Bond movie. His idle chat can be found on both Twitter and MyIGN.
