Fans Decide Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed DLC

Sumo Digital has voiced its support for a fan campaign to decide on DLC characters for Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed.

The company's Steve Lycett made a post over on the SEGA forums explaining that Sumo would be happy to get behind whatever characters the community chose, providing certain criteria were met.

If you can all agree on three characters by the first of December and prove there is sufficient interest of at least 1000 unique people per character, I will present the result to SEGA.

"I’ll set you a challenge," he said. "Without any policing from the SUMO or SEGA crew, if you can all agree on three characters by the first of December and prove there is sufficient interest of at least 1000 unique people per character, I will present the result to SEGA.

"I can’t promise anything will happen as a result, but since you’re starting it, let’s see if you can organise yourselves in the next few weeks to pull that off."

In response a forum thread has been created listing 26 characters from popular SEGA titles, each baring a link to a unique petition. At the time of writing three characters have already passed Sumo Digital's 1,000 signature threshold; SEGA Saturn mascot Segata Sanshiro has 2,195 votes, Vocaloid's Hatsune Miku has 2,004 and Shenmue's Ryo Hazuki has 1,982.

Other names that are inching closer to the magical number of required signatures include Vectorman, Ristar and Bayonetta. Lycett was quick to assert, however, that a successful campaign didn't guarantee that the character would appear in the game as there may still be issues tied to third-party publishers and licensing.

When we reviewed the game we found it to be a thoroughly enjoyable ride, so be sure to head over to the SEGA forums and drop in your two cents if you've picked up the game.

This is the latest in a surge of incidents where developers have reached out to fans for feedback or support; earlier this week BioWare asked fans when they wanted Mass Effect 4 to be set and earlier this month Crytek's Cevat Yerli said he'd support a re-release or sequel to Timesplitters with enough fan interest.
