Poll: Do You Want the Expanded Universe in Star Wars: Episode VII?

What will Star Wars: Episode VII -- and the films that follow -- be about? We learned last week that Oscar-winner Michael Arndt (Toy Story 3, Little Miss Sunshine) is writing a treatment for the new trilogy and penning the screenplay for Episode VII. Pre-production on the film is also underway, and we expect to hear a director announcement sooner rather than later. But when it comes to the subject matter of the new films… well, fans are as in the dark right now as your average citizen of Alderaan the day the Death Star came a-callin'.

Spielberg Talks Star Wars: Episode VII

The speculation is that Luke, Han and Leia will return in some capacity, but even if that proves to be true, there are still lots of questions to be answered. And, as many diehard fans will tell you, there's a huge amount of Star Wars Expanded Universe material that Arndt and Lucasfilm boss Kathleen Kennedy could draw from. Yes, the new films are expected to be "original stories," but that doesn't mean that aspects of the EU won't be used.

Which brings us to our poll. What do you guys thinks? Should Expanded Universe characters be included like Grand Admiral Thrawn, Mara Jade and those peerless Solo twins, Jaina and Jacen? Or is it better to just toss out the Expanded Universe entirely and start from scratch?

We want to hear your thoughts, so be sure to vote in our poll -- and then continue the discussion in the comments!
