Diablo III Running on Consoles at Blizzard

Blizzard has announced that Diablo III is currently running on consoles, though it hasn't yet been granted the status of an "official project".

Speaking to Polygon, Blizzard executive Rob Pardo explained that the team was testing to see how the game performed on unspecified consoles, which would in turn lead to official ports should it go well enough.

The game's lead designer Jay Wilson chimed in to add that while the option of consoles was still being explored, the team was currently hard at work expanding on the game.

"The whole team is essentially working on the next big Diablo thing," he revealed. "A lot of that stuff will show up next year at some point."

This isn't the first time we've heard rumours about Diablo III coming to consoles, but with the last update so long ago it's encouraging to know that development appears to have moved forward somewhat.

Though it proved incredibly popular upon launch, quickly becoming the fastest-selling PC game of all time and having over 10 million players at its peak, the game has fallen from grace in recent months with even Blizzard admitting that the current endgame model isn't sustainable.

While the developers have promised to try and address fan concerns in a series of patches, the highly-anticipated PvP patch has yet to make an appearance despite being announced before the game even launched. It's now being speculated about that it may form part of the game's upcoming expansion.
