A while back, IDW Publishing announced that they'd be doing a line of collector-centric deluxe hardcovers that were pretty pricey and extremely limited in quantity. And boy, they weren't joking.
Today they revealed the IDW Limited Deluxe hardcover of Transformers: The IDW Collection Volume 1, which will come in three different tiers -- Red Label ($125), Black Label ($300), and Blue Label ($400). With the Red Label being the cheapest, it's also the most common, as it's limited to 275 copies. The Black Label has three different iterations that includes original sketches by different artists (Alex Milne, Marcelo Matere, or Casey Coller), each of which has 10 copies available. And the Blue Label edition, which comes with a character illustration by E.J. Su is also limited to 10 copies, but don't even worry about it, because it's already sold out.
So what's so special about these puppies? Well, each edition is signed by the artists mentioned above as well as Simon Furman and Shane McCarthy, and include original artwork from the artists depending on which incarnation you buy. It's got custom built casing with unique art elements worked into the design, and the Blue and Black Label editions come inside a custom-built tray case. Plus, of course, the books collect a whole bunch of Transformers comics -- 388 pages worth, to be exact.
"Long-time fans and first time readers should both find a reason to get excited about this book," said Transformers editor John Barber, "These issues were picked for maximum dramatic effect when reading, and the artists who contributed were chosen for the same reason. Each artist delivered in knockout fashion. This is the best possible introduction to Transformers comics, and it’s the perfect fan service to long-time readers. This is the start of what should be an absolutely amazing run of Transformers books from IDW Limited."

Transformers: The IDW Collection Volume 1 is now available for pre-order at the IDW Limited website, and will be shipping just after Christmas.
