LR9 of SC2 IPL5: Polt vs. Sniper Recap

Game 1 on Ohana

Polt goes for early starport play, which is scouted by Sniper's overlord. He opts for a hellion-banshee build. Sniper opens standard with a 15-hatch followed up a third hatchery. With his hellions and two cloaked banshees, Polt harasses the third and takes out queens, zerglings, and several workers. He is relentess with his aggression, pushing into the main and taking some shots at the drones there.

Sniper spawns mutalisks to take care of the harassment and he is able to hold. Polt is extremely late with his armory and begins researching +2 rather late. However, he takes advantage of Sniper's mutalisks, which are slightly out of position, and he destroys a chunk of them. Both players go back and forth until Sniper rolls in with a mass of zerglings and banelings, which Polt is able to stop with near-perfect marine micro.

Sniper slowly falls furth and further behind as he loses his bases, dwindling his economy and army supply. He cannot recover and is forced to gg.

Game 2 on Daybreak

Polt goes command center first followed by an early refinery, whereas Sniper rushes a spire misreading Polt's opening. Polt pushes forward aggressively with his blue flame hellions but is thwarted by Sniper's wall of queens. He is unable to push through as the mutalisks pop, so he retreats. Polt is now in a bad spot as he does not have combat shields or any other upgrades. He has barely any defenses at home as he commited fully to the blue flame hellion rush.

Sniper overextends his mutalisks in order to take down Polt's third. He loses all of his zerglings and banelings to the siege tank line and a huge chunk of his mutalisks. Polt repairs the command center just in time and Sniper retreats.

Both players go back and forth, but Polt is able to trade more efficiently. Sniper attempts one last assault with his muta-ling-baneling force, but it is not enough. He bows out of IPL5 and Polt advances.
