Zombie Endless Runner Into the Dead Revealed

Pikpok, the studio behind cheery iOS hits like Flick Kick Football and Slam Dunk King, are back with something a little bit more… horrific. The company’s next title, a first-person 3D endless runner called Into the Dead, is slated for release this Thursday, December 6.

When you pick up Into the the Dead you’re instantly put on the run from the zombie horde in an atmospheric and desaturated outdoor environment. Where did the zombies come from? What are you running towards? Into the Dead doesn’t have time for these kinds of questions! The only option is to tilt (or tap) left/right to aim your runner away from the encroaching zombies to survive as long as possible as you run ever-forward.

Yellow eyes! So help me God, yellow eyes!

The environment slowly changes over time, introducing hazards like thick groves of trees or vision-obscuring corn fields. And of course the zombie horde itself becomes thicker and thicker. Luckily players have a variety of weapons and upgrades at their disposal.

Into the Dead is a freemium title, with players earning access to weapons like Chainsaws, Pistols and even a Minigun to help them carve a path through the undead horde. Players earn coins slowly over time to grab these and other power-ups, with the option to purchase coins to speed up the process.

Zombie-infested cornfield? NBD.

In my early play sessions the In-App Purchases felt very unobtrusive – gamers should be able to enjoy this zombie escape free-of-charge if they insist on not spending any dough.

Into the Dead hits iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch this Thursday, December 6.
