Grasshopper Manufacture’s Killer Is Dead has been in development for quite some time now, but we haven’t seen too much about it since it was announced in April 2012. But now, thanks to a feature in Famitsu by Goichi "Suda51" Suda (and translated by Polygon), we’re getting our first taste of what is to come.
Like Killer7 and No More Heroes before it, Killer Is Dead will feature a cel-shaded look combined with huge amounts of gore and violence to create that quirky, yet brutal look that Suda51 has become so well-known for.
Killer Is Dead will star robotically-enhanced Mondo Zappa as he brawls his way through a cybernetics-infested world. Under the tutelage of the Brian Execution Firm, he’ll be hunting down assassins while armed with a sword in one hand and an upgradable gun attached to the other. Expect drills, powerful projectiles, and other stuff to make appearances at the end up his limb.
As always, we can expect that special charm that makes Suda51, well, Suda51. "We're trying to make a game that we'd only be able to make right now, at this point in time,” he told Famitsu.
Killer Is Dead is set to come out in Japan this summer.
