NBC Executives Talk About the Possibilities for the Future of Community and Parks and Recreation

Community has seen its fair share of upheaval (with the departure of show creator Dan Harmon and now star Chevy Chase), and fans are continually left in a state of anticipation and perplexity about the future of the show.

Robert Greenblatt, Chairman, NBC and Jennifer Salke, President, NBC Entertainment were available at today's TCA (Television Critics Association) tour to give some updates on the series.

"Look, I don’t know that I’m the Community expert, but I think you’re going to see relatively the same show that you’ve seen before and I hope that’s a good thing," Greenblatt said of the tone of the Harmon-less Season 4. "Maybe there’s a little more heart built into it, but we didn’t fundamentally change it."

When asked if there were hope for it to continue into a Season 5, Greenblatt replied, "Yeah, absolutely, I’m always hopeful for a show to continue. You know we co-own it, the company, and I’d love nothing more than to see it continue."

As to how they’d handle Chevy Chase's departure if there’s a Season 5, Greenblatt said they had not discussed that, yet.

"I think we’re early on in that. You know, actors come and go on a lot of show and this is a big ensemble, so I don’t think that’s going to be in anyway a big negative on the future of the series."

When asked if Parks and Recreation would be renewed, Greenblatt said, "I hate to sort of predict, because it’s a long way between now and May, but we love Parks and Rec and we love Amy Poehler and that whole cast . We love what Time Magazine said about it. We love what critics say about the show. And I’m hopeful that it goes on and on. Same with Community. But anything can happen between now and the end of the [season]."

As to what would need to happen in order for the both Community and Parks and Recreation to move forward, Salke said, “We hope that that core group of viewers comes and shows up."

So show up!

Parks and Recreation resumes its season on NBC on January 17, and Community: Season 4 premieres on February 7.
