Daredevil #23 Review

If for some reason you are not currently reading Daredevil (why the hell are you not reading Daredevil?) then rejoice, because this issue is the perfect jumping on point. It's new reader friendly to the extreme, even giving you a brief recap of the character's origin. Seriously, this issue is like a lesson on how to make comic books; fun, exciting, emotional, and enjoyable for everyone. Listen up, other comic books that aren't Daredevil, start being more like Daredevil!

Mark Waid is a master. He's so good that I hate him and then circle back to loving him all in the span of a single issue. He manages to keep story arcs short and sweet while still building a larger, grander tale. This is how comic book used to be all the time, kids: accessible and enjoyable. Daredevil proves that comics can still be fun and that is largely due to the superb writing delivered issue after issue by Mark Waid.

Of course, I am required to do my customary gushing about the artwork of Chris Samnee. Sure, all the crazy super heroics look awesome. And yes, I want to wallpaper my house with that image of Daredevil standing atop a building and that amazing cover. But, where Samnee really nails it is in the last four pages. It's a quiet scene, filled with emotion and heart. The look on Matt Murdock's face was enough to bring a tear to my eye. No joke, guys, this one hits home. It's incredible.

Benjamin's grandfather is dying of cancer. This issue was a little hard to read. Follow Benjamin on Twitter @616Earth, or find him on IGN.
