Could this be it for John McClane? The critically panned A Good Day to Die Hard dropped from being the No. 1 movie in North America in its debut last weekend to fifth place this weekend, with holdover Identity Thief stealing back the top spot in its third week in release.
The fifth Die Hard movie -- reportedly budgeted at $92 million without including sizable marketing costs -- has only made just under $52 million at the domestic box office so far, meaning it certainly won't reach $92 million at home.
However, A Good Day to Die Hard is the latest big Hollywood movie to earn more abroad than at home. Its worldwide tally is currently at $131.4 million. Die Hard's international earning power would be the soundest reason for why the aging franchise might get a sixth installment.
Meanwhile, Dwayne Johnson's Snitch and the horror flick Dark Skies both performed meekly in their debuts, although Dark Skies has already earned back its meager $3.5 million budget.
