Turtle Power strikes again! Nickelodeon announced today that their freshman series Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles has officially been picked up for Season 3.
According to Deadline, the network made the announcement at Nick's upfront presentation in New York earlier this afternoon. Nickelodeon Group president Cyma Zarghami acknowledged that 2012 had been a tough year, in which "new competitors came on strong" -- a reference to the Disney Junior upstart. However, she added that, "[Nickelodeon] has hit the reset button" and is "reinventing itself," with a strong focus on animation.
This would explain the premature Season 3 renewal of TMNT, which hasn't even finished airing its first season yet. (Season 2 was announced back in October.) But, hey, it's not like we're complaining.
Nick also ordered a series pickup for Breadwinners, a new animated show based on the short by animator Gary "Doodles" DiRaffaele and writer Steve Borst.
