Sony’s Documentary on PlayStation 2’s Retail Dominance

Yesterday, we posted about Sony’s celebration of the original PlayStation. The 150 second video quickly recapped PSone’s rise in the mid-’90s and some of the games that made it so successful.

Today, Sony has released another video, just over two minutes long, this time discussing the PlayStation 2. You can view it below.

As we stated yesterday, these videos seem designed to help develop some excitement in anticipation of PlayStation 4’s probable reveal on February 20. By looking back on prouder times in PlayStation’s history, Sony seems to be hinting that perhaps its new product may be just as revolutionary.

The PlayStation 2 launched worldwide in 2000 and is -- by far -- the best-selling home gaming console ever created. With over 153 million sold worldwide, the PS2 managed to significantly outsell its primary competition -- Nintendo’s GameCube and Microsoft’s Xbox -- which sold 21.7 million and 24 million units, respectively.

With the PSone video coming out yesterday and the PS2 video today, something tells us the PS3 video will be released tomorrow (Sunday). In the meantime, check out yesterday’s mini-documentary about the original PlayStation, embedded above.
