EA has shut down BioWare San Francisco, the studio responsible for social games such as Dragon Age Legends and Mirror’s Edge 2D.
The news first broke via GamesRadar (and has since been confirmed by IGN) and reportedly includes layoffs of between 25 to 30 employees as Electronic Arts found it “too expensive” to produce social games from Redwood Shores, CA.
An EA spokesperson declined to comment on the shutdown but referred to last month’s EA layoffs, in which a memo from EA Labels president Frank Gibeau noted that “console transitions are a complex and challenging experience" and that "all the trend lines are converging to reward the creative and financial investments we have made in mobile and console technology."
IGN wishes the best of luck to anyone affected by today's news.
