Mojang Considering Minecraft for PlayStation

Mojang is considering making Minecraft for PlayStation after its exclusivity deal with Microsoft runs out - but a Wii U version is "very unlikely".

In an interview with iGamer spotted by Edge, Mojang's Jens Bergensten, who is lead designer on the mobile versions of the game, said "Microsoft has an exclusivity deal for consoles... When it runs out we’ll consider Minecraft for PlayStation, but Wii U is very unlikely."

Minecraft has sold ridiculously well on Xbox Live Arcade - it recently passed the five million mark on that platform alone, and would undoubtedly do well on Sony's platforms too. It's a shame that a Wii U version doesn't seem to be a possibility, given the platform's interface and its potential suitability for the game (and the fact that Minecraft's family audience and Nintendo's probably have a lot in common).

Minecraft was released on Xbox on May 9th last year - Mojang's exclusivity agreement is likely to be 12 months, so we could be seeing it on PlayStation sooner rather than later.
