Modern Family's Sofia Vergara is in negotiations to star opposite Jason Statham in the upcoming remake of Heat, based on the 1986 action film starring Burt Reynolds (so rest easy Michael Mann fans).
The story follows a recovering gambler/bodyguard (Statham) working in Vegas who decides to help out a friend after she's attacked by the mob, but he soon gets in over his head as he seeks revenge. THR reports that Vergara will play the friend.
Simon West will direct Heat from a screenplay by William Goldman, who also wrote the original movie and novel.
