Star Trek's Karl Urban Cast in J.J. Abrams' New Fox Drama Human

J.J. Abrams, ever a fan of working with the same actors on multiple projects, has tapped Karl Urban to star in his new FOX dramatic pilot Human, TV Line reports. Urban, who plays Dr. Leonard “Bones” McCoy in Abrams' cinematic Star Trek franchise will be joining Minka Kelly (Friday Night Lights), Lili Taylor (Six Feet Under), Michael Irby (The Unit) and Mackenzie Crook (Pirates of the Caribbean) in the futuristic thriller. The series is being described as an, "action-packed buddy cop show set in the near future, when all LAPD officers are partnered with highly evolved human-like androids."

Urban is set to play John Kennex, an emotionally and physically damaged officer who has been wounded in a mission gone tragically wrong. His partner, Dorian (Michael Ealy), is an android who seems to have a greater capacity for empathy where the human condition is concerned than Kennex does.

Fringe showrunner and long-time Abrams collaborator J.H. Wyman penned the pilot, so quite a bit of pedigree on this project already.

We will keep you updated as details emerge.
