Would you like to run your favorite graphics-heavy games with a staggering 3840x2160 resolution? That's the promise that AMD makes with the launch of it's newest high-end graphics card, the Radeon HD 7990. VentureBeat reports that the card can not only run graphics-intensive games but also display 4K video and run up to six displays at once.
The hefty card actually combines two HD 7970 GPUs on a single board, and has 8.6 billion transistors and more than 4,000 stream processors — comfortably running up to 8.2 teraflops of data . The graphics are also blazingly fast, holding up to 6GBs of DDR5 memory, producing a throughput of 96 gigabytes per second and banning muddy textures on computers for good. VentureBeat adds that it's relatively quiet for such a technology-rich card and it's smart enough to flip into power-saving mode when not in use.
While the Radeon HD 7990 easily bests Nvidia's GeForce GTX 690 cards in both performance and sound, it is also a formidable foe for the latter company's GTX Titan graphics card. AMD noted that their graphics card was used by EA in the PCs to demo Battlefield 4, but it's unlikely to be the chip used in the forthcoming PlayStation 4.
Interested in snapping up the card? The Radeon HD 7990 will be packaged with two Tahiti-based chips for $999 and also include six PC games, including Bioshock: Infinite, Tomb Raider, Crysis 3, and Hitman: Absolution.
What do you think of AMD's newest graphics card? How do you think it stacks up against Nvidia's options? Let us know in the comments.
