Every day hundreds of new apps make their debut on the App Store, and hundreds more are updated or reduced in price. We have sifted through the noise and highlighted those select few that might be worth your attention. Dark-Quest – ($0.99)
OK, I'm thinking somebody might be getting sued over this one. Just a few days ago we featured the new game Mighty Dungeons as the lead in our April 11 ASU, recommending it to you partly on the basis of it paying homage to the classic board game HeroQuest. Now, less than a week later, another new arrival is making a play for that same piece of nostalgia – but Dark-Quest goes so far with its "homage" that it looks like it's directly ripping off the old tabletop title. I'll let others render final judgment, but for comparison's sake take a look at Dark-Quest's title screen compared to HeroQuest's old boxart:
Epic Pirates Story – ($1.99)
When you declare that your game has an "epic story" right in its title, you'd better be prepared to deliver. That may be why I'm chuckling a bit to read the entirety of this game's description on its App Store page: "Duke A.Blizzardo, an evil pirate King, terrorizes the Caribbean. You seek revenge, as he was the one who took your father away." Epic!
Pocket League Story – ($0.99)
A couple of Kairosoft's charming titles have dropped down under a dollar today. First up is Pocket League Story, the company's cutesy soccer sim ...
Cafeteria Nipponica – ($0.99)
... and the other is Cafeteria Nipponica, the food-service sim. If you've never played a Kairosoft game before, either of these would be a good choice to be your first.
Eighty-Eight – (Free)
A touch-based falling-block puzzler built on properly lining up numbers. Give its trailer a look below, or click here to jump back to our February 26 App Store Update, in which Justin played some of this game live in the ASU video.
Last Temple 2 – (Free)
Another free puzzler option for your Tuesday, this one plays out on a grid of hexagons.
Stupid Zombies 2 – (Free)
Lastly, it wouldn't be a true ASU without a zombie game. Here's a free one featuring some particularly dumb undead.
That’s it for today! Email subscriptions to the App Store Update are still just one sign-up away, right here:
