Google Glass Prototype Ready to Ship to Early Adopters

In the next week, you might suddenly start seeing people walking the streets with strange futuristic devices strapped to their heads, but there’s no need to ask the real Geordie LaForge to please stand up. According to Google’s Executive Chairman Eric Schmidt, the first group of Google Glass “Explorers” will be receiving their devices sometime within the next few days.

These early adopters are not to be confused with the winners of Google’s #ifihadglass contest. About 2,000 attendees of last year’s I/O Conference had the opportunity to place pre-orders—and fork over $1,500—for the early version of Google Glass. At AllThingsD’s Dive Into Mobile conference, Schmidt said that the prototype was just about ready to be shipped out to the lucky few who have the privilege of being the first users to take Glass for a whirl.

The rest of us plebeians will have to wait until the end of the year at the earliest to get our hands on Google Glass. That is, if you have the money, the inclination, and the bravery to sport such a tech-savvy, stylin’ look.
