Is Zack Snyder the Frontrunner to Direct Justice League?

Warner Bros. is high on Man of Steel, that much is certain. (Join the club, Warners.) So high, it appears, that the film's director, Zack Snyder, might soon wind up landing that Justice League gig that we keep hearing about.

Hero Worship: Could There Already Be a Shared DC Universe?

In a new story about Man of Steel in Empire, the magazine says Warners hopes to sign Snyder for the JLA film if his upcoming Superman movie is a success.

"Whether we get a Justice League, [the studio says], depends on Man of Steel," says the report. "If we do, they say, Zack Snyder will be asked to direct."

Snyder also hints at what we've heard before about the film, namely that it is planting the seeds for a bigger cinematic DC universe.

“...in a weird way it is also the DC world," he says. "I have been making references to the DC universe, just to let you know that world is out there.”

What's interesting about this whole thing is that neither Snyder's Watchmen nor Sucker Punch did very well for Warner Bros. at the box office, to say the least. Could it be Legend of the Guardians that earned Snyder the faith of Warners?! Or perhaps the studio just sees the guy's talent as a director and has been willing to wait it out?

It should also be noted that just the other day, when asked about the JLA movie, Gangster Squad director Ruben Fleischer told Screen Crush, "Well that’s something that Zack Snyder is going to wind up doing." Does Fleischer have the inside scoop? Or has he just been lurking on the AICN Talkbacks for too long?

Who knows, but at the moment Snyder seems to be the frontrunner for the job.
