Life-to-Date Sales of Nintendo's Consoles Revealed

Nintendo's end-of-year financial results have revealed life-to-date sales for all of its current consoles, as well as projections for the next year.

The Wii is fast closing in on 100 million sales worldwide, standing at 99,840,000 at the end of March. The Wii U - which Nintendo had originally hoped would sell 5.5 million by this point - has managed 3.45 million. The Nintendo DS, the best-selling console of all time, now stands at 153.87 million sold.

Nintendo is still not happy with the 3DS' performance outside of Japan, where this year's games "did not generate sufficient sales momentum", according to the report. But it still stands at a very impressive 31.09 million units, 11.54 million of which were sold in the company's home country.

The targets for Financial Year 2014 are bold. Over the next year, Nintendo hopes to sell 9 million Wii U consoles (!), along with 38 million games (currently 13.42 million games have been sold). Another 2 million Wiis are expected to be sold, along with 18 million 3DSes.
