Satoru Iwata Appointed New Nintendo of America CEO

Nintendo president Satoru Iwata will become the new acting Nintendo of America CEO. He will absorb these new responsibilities into his current role.

Iwata is replacing Tatsumi Kimishima, who will now assume the role of general manager within parent company Nintendo Co. Ltd. Meanwhile Reggie Fils-Aime – the president, COO and public face of the company in North America – will remain in his current position.

So what's the reason for the shake-up? Nintendo is saying that it's part of an effort to enhance its "organisational agility" and streamline its international business.

Earlier this morning, Nintendo released its results for the past financial year. They revealed an ostensible return to profit, but most of this can be attributed to favourable changes in the currency markets and the firm's investments as opposed to sales of Nintendo products.
