The 10 Best Moments in Return of the Jedi

May 25th marks the 30th anniversary of the release of Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi so in honor of that we've assembled what we believe are the 10 best moments in the final installment of George Lucas' original Skywalker trilogy. Sound off on our picks in the Comments below!

Anyone who grew up when Jedi was in theaters will remember the saddest moment of the series by far: the fallen Ewok warrior. No matter what your feelings on the Ewoks as a race (Lucas had originally intended Endor to be none other than Kashyyyk, the Wookiee home planet), Dead Ewok is a heart-rending reminder of the tragedy of war. With one poke from his teddy bear cohort, Dead Ewok was cemented in the minds of a generation as a symbol of the brutality of conflict and the utter pointlessness of the Battle of Endor. Empire, Rebellion… what does it all mean if an anthropomorphic, furry forest creature loses its life?

900 years old, Yoda was at his death. That's a damn long time to serve as a Jedi, and much of Yoda's life remains shrouded in mystery. Yoda died with not one, but two, of the greatest Jedi ever made as his students. When 900 years old you reach, see if you can do just as good, hrm?

Leia Chokes Out Jabba

As one of the largest crime lords in the Star Wars universe, the vile gangster Jabba the Hutt made an empire for himself. But when Jabba refused to relinquish his prized trophy -- the body of Han Solo frozen in carbonite -- he set in motion his own downfall. Thanks to Luke Skywalker's Jedi might, Han's blind luck, and a feistier-than-expected Princess Leia, Jabba choked to death on his own pride and a durasteel chain. His empire quickly fell with him.

Leia Rescues Han

"You're free of the carbonite. You have hibernation sickness." "I can't see." "Your eyesight will return in time." "Where am I?" "Jabba's Palace." "Who are you?" "Someone who loves you.""Leia." Awww. The revelation that the bounty hunter Boushh was actually Princess Leia was ROTJ's other big unmasking besides Vader's climactic helmet removal. Alas, Han and Leia's romantic reunion proved brief as they were quickly captured by Jabba, which led to this fanboy wet dream sequence:

Rancor Fight!

Oh, that poor Gamorrean guard. But who doesn't like bacon, right? Luke's battle with the Rancor was a nice, old school Harryhausen touch in the film. And the Rancor Keeper's mourning of his big, dead pet is legitimately heartbreaking ... until you remember they were the bad guys.
