Double Fine’s Second Kickstarter Hits Goal

Double Fine’s second Kickstarter-based game, Massive Chalice, has passed its USD$725,000 goal less than a week into its funding period.

Massive Chalice is described on the game’s Kickstarter page as an “epic, replayable turn-based tactics game where you train generations of heroes to repel a demonic invasion.” The page cites classic tactical strategy games like X-COM, Final Fantasy Tactics, and Fire Emblem, as well as “Game of Thrones’ array of noble families” as inspiration for the project.

Massive Chalice hit the required total with more than three weeks to spare. Stretch goals have yet to be specified but the game’s scope is set to grow based on the amount of total backing the project receives.

Massive Chalice is being steered by Brad Muir, creator of Iron Brigade and longtime Double Fine veteran.

Last year Double Fine created headlines with its unprecedented crowdfunding success for Broken Age. In just over a month, the project earned USD$3,335,265, more than eight times its original goal of USD$400,000.
