Facebook Adds Video to Instagram, Updated App Available Now

Today Facebook announced that users will now be able to film and share videos through Instagram.  An obvious competitor to Vine, the updated Instagram app will lets you record up to 15 seconds of video by tapping on a new icon that will appear next to the standard shutter button.

You will be able to put together clips of footage — not unlike Twitter's video service — which you can then, unsurprisingly, add filters to. The 13 video filters will have different names than the ones in place for still photos, as to avoid confusion. Users will also be able to pick a specific thumbnail that will be used as the "Cover Frame" within the Instagram timeline.

A cinema mode is included, which will help stabilize the clips for a more pleasant viewing experience. The videos will play directly within the Instagram stream, and can also be viewed online.

The updated Instagram app is available now in Apple's App Store and the Google Play store.
