Game of Thrones: The Best Quotes from Season 3

With Game of Thrones Season 3 out of our lives, and nothing particularly good taking its place, it's the perfect time to reflect back on all the awesome things we experienced while we begin the year-ish long wait for Season 4.

But instead of an out-and-out "Best Moments" piece, I've decided to go a different route. With social media reflecting die-hard Game of Thrones fandom like never before, on Twitter, Tumblr and the like, I'm doing up a "Best Quotes" deal here in order to look back on some of the best, brightest, and most badass lines from this past season. You'll find that it almost works in the exact same manner, but with a spotlight on the brilliant dialogue. Dark wings, memorable words...

So here are some of the best - often jaw-dropping, insta-tweeted - lines spoken by Tyrion, Cersei, Jaime, Ramsay, Varys and more.

Ygritte: "You know nothing, Jon Sn…Oh!"

Jon Snow and Ygritte's relationship heated up this past season, allowing Jon to demonstrate to Ygritte that he knows one or two more things than nothing. Like that he knows the difference between a windmill and a castle. And what a windmill actually is. And the meaning of the word "faint." And how to show her earthly womanly pleasures she'd never before experienced. And how to crochet (deleted scene).

By the way, totally tangentializing here, but I was listening to Luscious Jackson the other day (as everyone should) and when the lyric "It takes a strong man to stand by a strong woman, yes it does" came on, I instantly thought of these two.

Cersei: "If you ever call me sister again…"

Ever get stuck talking to someone at a party that you just can't stand? And they really have no idea how deep your loathing for them actually goes? Well, Cersei's getting real tired of your s***, Margaery. You won. Cersei blinked first. She couldn't take any more fake smiling or political posturing. So let's just cut right to the death threat, shall we? If you continue along these lines, you will be brutally murdered. Hope you enjoy King's Landing. Write us a nice review on Yelp.

Arya: "Some day I'm going to put…"

Oh, to be a young girl who believes the only true God is Death. Leave it to everyone favorite adorable murder-doll, Arya, to deliver some of the best, coldest lines in all of Westeros. And sure, these all might be idle threats right now, considering her size and lack of training. But does anyone doubt that she stands a good chance of following through? Because I don't. So far, her biggest obstacle is probably making sure that the people she hates don't die before she has a chance to kill them.

Ramsay: "If you think this has a happy ending…"

A message to Theon, or a message from the author and/or producers to the fans? This line, from Roose's bastard son Ramsay, pretty much spelled out (and mapped out) Theon's dark fate and was cleverly inserted into Season 3 before the Red Wedding - as if to have a bit of a wink to the viewer already in place. Now, going forward, come what may, this line will forever be here, mocking our pain.

Jaime: "My name is…"

Based on how much we hated him in Season 1, and how absent he was for most of Season 2, it's hard to believe that Jaime Lannister (arguably) had best Season 3 story - finally crumbling under the vast weight of being mutilated and humiliated and confessing his entire motivation for killing Mad King Aerys to Brienne. The best part of this arc was how much Jaime managed to embrace empathy after his one moment of kindness (when he manipulated Locke's hunters into sparing Brienne) led to his prized, sword-wielding hand getting lopped off. He could have taken it as a sign to regress even further into bitterness and cruelty, but instead his heart opened up and he began to think of Brienne as a true, respected friend. Game of Thrones pulls off a lot of unexpected moments (most of them traumatizing), but this one really soared, making the viewer pull a 180 right along with the character.
