Jon Chu Returning to Direct G.I. Joe 3

Paramount Pictures is reportedly closing a deal with G.I. Joe: Retaliation director Jon Chu to helm a third installment of the action franchise.

The studio is right to bring back Chu -- he did after all completely rework and revive the film series following 2009's G.I. Joe: Rise of the Cobra, and did so with great success. (On a budget of $130 million, Retaliation grossed $365 million globally.) As such, it only makes sense that Chu would return to direct G.I. Joe 3.

According to Deadline, Skydance Productions will be back in as financing partner with Paramount. Meanwhile, the studio has a shortlist of four writers to pen the screenplay, and should reach a decision shortly.
