Former Project Gotham Racing Devs Working on 2K Drive

2K games has officially announced that Lucid Games' racing sim 2K Drive is coming to iPhone, iPad and iPod touch later this fall. Principals at Lucid include key members of the Blur and the Project Gotham Racing teams, giving the company solid racing bonafides, although the studio hasn't previously released a racing game.

Polygon and other outlets first noticed 2K Drive's existence way back in June, when the game went live in the Netherlands and a few other small territories for testing purposes. It is becoming increasingly common for mobile game developers to "live test" their games in some countries, sometimes months before completion, before releasing them worldwide.

2K Drive is characterized as a "sim racer" with multiple modes, including drag racing, street racing, off-road courses, and more. 25 licensed cars will be included at launch from Dodge, Fiat, Ford, McLaren, Nissan, and other manufacturers. A "RaceFace" function, which sounds similar to the face-mapping featured in Square-Enix's Bloodmasque, allows players to put their own face behind the wheel. Race fans can also browse articles and photo galleries in-game from real-world racing magazines like Car & Driver, Road & Track, DUB Magazine and several more.

A worldwide launch date for 2K Drive has not yet been set. Gamers attending PAX Prime will be able to check the game out for themselves at 2K's booth later this month.
