If you have always dreamt of seeing the Hulk team up with a bunch of cowboys or dinosaurs, well, rejoice, because dreams do come true. Yes, Indestructible Hulk #12 features lots of cowboys and lots of dinosaurs which makes for an oddly satisfying mixture. This is a great comic book that puts Mark Waid's ability to make superhero comics pure, unabashed fun on full display. It doesn't hurt either that Matteo Scalera's frantic and intense art turns every page into an explosion of beauty and violence.
The setup to this series should be familiar to Daredevil fans. Waid uses the same structure, with tiny arcs and one shots fitting together into a bigger, longer story. Like his horn headed counterpart, Hulk has a series that feels new and classic all at once. It's big – at times dumb – fun that will keep you coming back month to month. Indestructible Hulk is exactly the kind of comic that the jade giant deserves.
Matteo Scalera works some real sorcery in these pages. His scratchy style gives a sense of movement to every panel. This issue never slows down, and that's not a bad thing. As with previous issues, there are scenes that get a bit muddled and it can be difficult to tell exactly where characters are positioned, but overall this thing looks great. Plus, Hulk fights dinosaurs and it's awesome. Dinosaurs, guys! Val Staples lays down some killer color, as well, creating a superbly constructed comic.
