James Franco is adding a new skill to his ever evolving resume: TV host. The prolific actor, director, student, and all around renaissance man is set to take on yet another project. Franco will be bringing his passion for art - which was so humorously depicted in this summer's This Is The End - to television with a new series for Ovation entitled James Franco Presents.
The actor will act as both host and executive producer for the series which will include interviews with artists, footage from micro-budget films and documentaries and Franco's own video diaries. It is set to debut in the fall.
"This is a show where content dictates form and form dictates content," the actor said. "It is an art show that is an art piece, meaning the show has synched with the rhythms of my life and work."
"James Franco is the ultimate artist, so partnering with James is a dream come true for Ovation," said the network's chief creative officer Robert Weiss. "And, since Ovation's mantra is 'art is everywhere,' James is the perfect person through whom to introduce viewers to a modern, more inclusive definition of art."
Franco got his start on television's Freaks and Geeks and gained notice as the star of a James Dean TV movie. He's continued to make guest appearances on television, including a stint on the soap General Hospital. As the tone feels a little on the experimental side, it's unclear who the exact target audience for this particular series is, other than people willing to tune in to a James Franco hosted "content dictates form" art series 'cause, hey, why not?
