This Week on the Wii U and 3DS eShop (08.29.2013)

This week is light, but it’s packed with some quality content. The big release is Pokémon Rumble U on the Wii U eShop, which brings about NFC tech to the Wii U as you can get different toy Pokémon figures to use in the game. Today also has two Virtual Console releases, one on each platform. The original Legend of Zelda is on Wii U Virtual Console, while Wario Land 3, the Game Boy Color classic, makes it way to the 3DS. Lastly, Rayman Legends comes to the eShop on the same day as its retail release on September 3. Be sure to check the sales, too. Some are expiring very soon.

Wii U Original Digital Games

Pokémon Rumble U ($17.99)

The latest entry in the Pokémon Rumble series brings a new wrinkle to the beat-’em-up fray: Skylander-like toys. You can pick up figures at GameStop for $3.99 each and then bring them into the action using the Near Field Connection input on the GamePad. Aside from that, Rumble U has every Pokémon as of Pokémon Black 2 and White 2. It has four-player multiplayer, including both co-op and competitive modes.

Wii U Retail Games

Rayman Legends ($59.99, Available September 3)

Finally, Rayman Legends is out on Wii U. The sequel to 2011’s Rayman Origins, Legends picks up after the last game left off and is packed with platforming action. In addition to playing with four players controlling Rayman. Globox, and more, you can also control Murfy on the GamePad to help Rayman and company get past different obstacles. That means you can have five players playing together throughout the adventure at any time. If you’ve played New Super Mario Bros. U and New Super Luigi U to completion and are looking for the next great Wii U platformer, this might be your best bet. For more details, check out IGN’s glowing review.

Wii U Virtual Console

The Legend of Zelda ($4.99)

Optimally, you should play The Legend of Zelda on the recently announced Wind Waker HD Wii U, complete with Hylian trim. However, if you already have a Wii U, you’re fine picking up this NES classic on the Virtual Console today, especially if you’ve never gotten lost in the 8-bit lands of Hyrule before. Remember, if you bought The Legend of Zelda on Wii, you can upgrade to the Wii U version for $1.

3DS Virtual Console

Wario Land 3 ($4.99)

Not to get too personal here, but I’ve always wanted to play Wario Land 3. Now that it’s on 3DS Virtual Console, I can easily pick it up. It stars Wario in an expansive Metroid-like environment as he needs to bash his way out of a magical music box he got trapped in. Wario is once again invincible and can turn into different weird transformations, such as Fat Wario, Zombie Wario, or Vampire Wario. The goal is to gather 100 treasures so you can help a possibly nefarious character get their powers back. Now, if you’ll excuse, I’m going to go download this. See you guys next week.

Sales

Bit.Trip Saga Sale

The 3DS compilation of Gaijin Games’ original Bit.Trip series is now only $4.99 on the eShop starting September 1. CommanderVideo and the gang will only be this cheap until September 15, though, so act fast. Seriously, it’s got Bit.Trip Runner in it, and that game is worth the $5 by itself.

Shin Megami Tensei IV, Fire Emblem Awakening Bundle

Purchase Shin Megami Tensei IV and Fire Emblem Awakening and then register them on Club Nintendo to be able to get a $30 eShop credit starting July 16, which is when Shin Megami Tensei IV comes out. The offer is available until August 31, so if you buy both games, be sure to register them before that day.

Trine 2 Sale

Trine 2: Director’s Cut, a Wii U eShop launch title, is deeply discounted at $7.99, a steep decrease from its regular $19.99 price, from now until September 5.

Neal Ronaghan turned into a zombie version of himself in order to play Wario Land 3. He’ll be back to normal when the sun hits him, but until then, follow him on Twitter at @nron10, check him out on www.nintendoworldreport.com, and listen to the 100th episode of his podcast, Connectivity, airing this Saturday.
