Nintendo's handheld system has sold more total units in Japan than the Nintendo Wii, according to a recent report.
The figures, from Japanese sales tracking group Media Create, show that the 3DS' 12,752,731 units have finally surpassed the Wii's 12,698,878, making it the best-selling platform in Japan right now.
Much of the handheld's success is due to its software lineup, Games Industry International says. 12 of the 20 top-selling games in Japan are 3DS titles, with Monster Hunter 4 topping overall sales this week.
The 3DS' main contender for hardware sales this week was the PS3, while no software for the Wii U made the top 20 list.
