Earlier this summer, Sacha Baron Cohen left GK Film's untitled Freddie Mercury biopic over "creative differences." Now it has come to light exactly what those differences were.
As it turns out, Baron Cohen actually dropped the Mercury project because the late singer's Queen bandmates didn't want the Borat star for the film.
"We felt Sacha probably wasn't right in the end," Queen drummer Roger Taylor told Mojo in a recent interview. "We didn't want it to be a joke. We want people to be moved."
Screenwriter Peter Morgan (The Queen, Frost/Nixon) was also attached to the biopic, but he too left when Baron Cohen did. The search for a new lead continues, however, though the film will obviously not be ready in time for its original early 2014 release.
