App Store Update: October 5

Every day hundreds of new apps make their debut on the App Store, and hundreds more are updated or reduced in price. We have sifted through the noise and highlighted those select few that might be worth your attention.

Game Debuts

House of Shadows – ($1.99)

When your little sister makes the mistake of wandering into the spookiest house in your neighborhood, it's up to you to be a brave big brother and go inside to get her back. House of Shadows is the latest App Store offering from Armor Games, and its emphasis is on dynamic, mood-setting lighting – perfectly appropriate as Halloween draws nearer. Give it a look.

Price Drops

Cytus – (Free)

Cytus is a gorgeous rhythm game, with gameplay somewhat similar to Groove Coaster. It's free today in honor of developer Rayark Inc.'s first anniversary.

Pac-Man for iPad – ($2.99)

Namco's iconic yellow hero has been back in the spotlight for the past few days, as a Facebook poll seeking input for his next game's art style has drawn attention back to his insatiable ghost-munching. If you're feeling nostalgic yourself, check out the iPad port of the 1980 arcade original – it's 40% off right now.

Puzzle Mage – (Free)

Take control of a cute little spellcaster stranded on a set of floating islands in the sky, and use your finger to swipe and swap the islands' positions around so the tiny mage can make his way to each stage's exit.

iOOTP Baseball 2012 Edition – ($0.99)

Baseball fans, the post-season is upon us. Get your fix of baseball action when the final games of the season aren't on TV via iOOTP Baseball's 2012 Edition, an in-depth management sim that's on sale for four bucks off for this weekend only.

That's all for this week! If you haven't already, consider subscribing to the App Store Update via email. It's extra convenient!
