Disney Resurrecting Condorman?

It's no Marvel property, but Walt Disney Studios is now reportedly considering a reboot of one of its (admittedly lesser) superheroes: Condorman.

According to an inside source at Moviehole.net, the 1981 Charles Jarrott film starring British stage actor Michael Crawford could be getting a facelift soon. For those of you who don't recall -- why would you? -- Condorman told the story of a comic book illustrator, Woody Wilkins, who transformed himself into the superhero he draws.

Said the insider of the rumored film project, "The idea remains the same... It would all begin with a solo movie -- the obligatory origins movie. [Woody's] a Brit again. Robert Pattinson's name has been floated, can you see him going for it? He seems to be into more intellectual things. Still, a pompous cartoonist turned superhero-type gets to assist in the deflection of a sexy young KGB agent. Emphasis would be more on action this time around though. They want to steer as far off from Johnny English territory as possible. But there's talk of doing lots with the Condorman brand."

This isn't the first time a Condorman revival's been mentioned in the last year or so. Pixar's Angus MacLane, whose Toy Story short "Small Fry" features a cameo of the character, expressed to IGN back in November that he would be interested in getting Condorman "back into the public consciousness."

The original Condorman wasn't a big success, but the character has certainly attained cult classic status in recent years, so who knows?
