BBC Cancels Merlin

The end is nigh for Merlin, with the BBC announcing that the show's current season will be its last.

The series – which airs on SyFy in the U.S. and revolves around the early years of King Arthur and Merlin – will conclude with the battle for Camelot.

“I think the show has run its natural course” explained Merlin himself, Colin Morgan. “We’ve arrived at its strongest point and we’ve achieved what we set out to do.”

It may not be the end for the characters, however, with Deadline reporting that “Shine and FreemantleMedia Enterprises – which handles the show internationally – are in the early stages of developing potential Merlin spin-offs using the universe created in the series.”

Chris Tilly is the Entertainment Editor for IGN in the UK and had never watched an episode of Merlin. His rambling can be found on both Twitter and MyIGN.
