Game one started with both teams immediately trading kills. In an effort to shut down HooN, LG made a lane swap, sending Paragon and Lasha mid, putting Mid King bot. This pressure allowed LG to control a majority of the jungle buffs. Once LG acquired all their global buffs, they immediately picked up the aggression, picking up kills and taking objectives, giving themselves the slight lead. Shield, not to be out done, returned fire, taking kills and objectives of their own, decreasing their gold deficit. Unfortunately for LG, Shield proved themselves superior in team fights. With the advantage in map control, Shield baited dragon, forcing LG to contest. LG fell right into Shield's trap. Hiding in a blind spot, Shield initiated on LG, chaining their abilities perfectly, trading 4-1, and taking two consecutive towers. Despite their loss, looked for opportunities to turn the game around. Unfortunately, it was futile, Shield was always able to turn the fight around, pushing LG further and further behind. Eventually, Shield had the confidence to go for baron. Despite some slight interference from LG, Shield was able to take baron. Using baron, Shield was able to pressure lanes, take inhibitors and win fights. Finally, there was nothing LG could do as a final fight ended disastrously allowing Shield to push down the nexus.

  • Ashe - Paragon (adc)
  • Cho'Gath - Ring (jungle)

LG IM came back with a vengeance in game two, winning a level one team fight, picking up two early kills. Keeping up their aggression, LG continued to pick off Shield members giving them favorable map control and control over objectives. With a sizable lead, all LG members pressured mid looking to take further objectives. Seeing an opportunity, Paragon initiated on viNylCat, looking for another pick off. While LG was able to instantly kill viNylCat, the follow up from Shield dealt too much damage and enabled them to turn the fight around, ending in a 4-2 trade in favor or NaJin Shield. While LG had the visible advantage, Shield was beginning to show their prowess in team fights. Not to be deterred, LG was still able to punish overextended Shield members, and even sneak baron. In the next fight, good positioning and coordination allowed LG to pull out the 5-0 ace, putting themselves in control of the game. Shield seemed to be in despair as they let themselves be picked off one by one as LG pushed into Shield's base, forcing the surrender.

Match Breakdown

Game one was devastating for LG, but they came back with a vengeance in game two.

In game one, LG's lane switch did not have the desired effect of completely shutting down HooN. Because of this, both teams were relatively even going into the mid game. The difference was in the team compositions. While Shield did not have any AoE crowd control to chain, the abilities of their champions still worked extremely well with each other. When fights started, HooN, Expression, and MOKUZA immediately dived the back line. Normally, with chamions like Shen and Udyr, it would be easy to peel enemies off their carries, but unfortunately, viNylCat's Sona ultimate was used just at the right time to tie up LG's front line long enough for Shield to decimate the enemy carries.

Game two took on a completely different tone. The entire game, Shield was only able to win one team fight, taking advantage of an over zealous LG team. But unfortunately, it was not enough to claim control of the game. LG had a ridiculous front line in Cho'Gath, Malphite, and Diana. With their team comp, LG was effectively able to chain their crowd control and dive the enemy back line while keeping their own carries safe. This allowed LG to continue to take objectives and win team fights.

MVP

The MVP for game one was Expression. While MOKUZA and HooN also did a good job in diving the back line, Expression on Irelia proved to have the most devastating effect making full use of Irelia's abilities to cause the greatest amount of damage.

In game two, the MVP was Mid King. For LG's team composition to work, Mid King had to be able to destroy Shield's back line. LG had a lot of crowd control to chain, but none of the other LG members had the damage and diving capabilities of Diana, placing a heavy burden on Mid King. However, Mid King shrugged off this pressure and effectively comboed his abilities to lock down and kill the enemy carries with the opportunities given to him.
