Wii U UK Launch Guide

Our Stateside cousins have been enjoying Nintendo's new console for a little while now, and here in Europe we can officially join in on Friday. We've had an absolute tonne of Wii U info up on the site over the past few weeks, so to help you navigate it, we thought we'd put it all here in one place.

Picking up a Wii U on Friday? Still thinking about it? Hopefully this launch guide can help you decide.

There are 2 Wii U Bundles available at launch in the UK:

The Basic Pack:

  • 8GB storage
  • White console and gamepad
  • No bundled software
  • Around £249

The Premium Pack:

  • 32GB storage
  • Black console and gamepad
  • GamePad charging stand
  • Console stand
  • Nintendo Land included
  • Around £299

For our money, the Premium bundle is really the only way to go - with 8GB of storage there's not even enough room to store one full game download, and Nintendo Land is worth the extra cash. You can expand Wii U's storage with an external USB hard drive - Nintendo recommends an AC-powered one for best results. Read how to set up USB storage on Wii here, and check Nintendo's advice on supported USB storage devices here.

Our Wii U hardware review is also live now. Want to know how the OS looks and works? Check it out:

We don't have Hulu here in the UK, but Wii U is launching here with Netflix and Lovefilm. iPlayer and 4oD have yet to be confirmed.
