GSL Code S Finals: MVP.Sniper vs. TSL.HyuN Recap

Game 1 on Antiga Shipyard

HyuN opens up with a six-pool followed up by a quick baneling nest, whereas Sniper goes hatch first. Sniper's pool does not complete in time and his base is overrun by zerglings and banelings. Sniper loses every last drone and is forced to gg immediately.

Game 2 on Bel'Shir Vestige

Both players go hatch first with HyuN's pool completing slightly earlier than Sniper's. Both players drop a baneling nest, however, Sniper's nest is placed at the front of his natural. The game progresses. Sniper rushes infestors, whereas HyuN prepares for a timing attack. As his upgrades complete, HyuN charges forward and is met with fungal growths and infested Terrans. He retreats.

With his superior economy, Sniper is able to remax his maxed out army of roaches and infestors almost immediately, which overwhelms HyuN in the end. HyuN gg's.

Game 3 on Abyssal City

HyuN opens up with a 14-hatch, whereas Sniper goes for a 15-pool. HyuN goes on the offensive and pushes forward with a stream of zerglings. He kills one queen and lands a couple baneling busts on Sniper's worker line, taking out four drones. Sniper responds by spawning fourteen roaches, which push into Sniper's natural. He decimates the natural, taking out over twenty drones, several roaches, and queens.

HyuN counters with roaches and zerglings at Sniper's natural, but he is pushed back by a well-positioned spinecrawler. Sniper finally makes a third hatchery at the fourteen minute mark; HyuN makes his slightly later. Sniper charges into HyuN's third and annihilates everything with his army of roaches. HyuN cannot recover and he concedes the game.

Game 4 on Entombed Valley

Sniper and HyuN both open similarly, opting for a roach warren each. Sniper charges into HyuN's third with zerglings and banelings, successfully denying the third base, forcing HyuN to queue twenty zerglings. HyuN responds by counter-attacking, making Sniper cancel his third hatchery. Sniper moves forward with a group of roaches and banelings, but it is not enough to combat HyuN's mass roaches. HyuN surrounds Sniper's roaches and kills them all.

HyuN counter attacks, completely decimating Sniper's base. Sniper has no answer and gg's.

Game 5 on Whirlwind

Both players open up with a 15-hatch and follow up with ling-baneling aggression. They go back and forth with baneling busts and ling runbys with Sniper coming out slightly on top with seven more drones. Both players eventually transition into roaches. Again, they go back and forth, battling here and there, trading roaches for roaches. Eventually both players tech into infestors, however, HyuN also goes for hydralisks.

A big engagement in the middle of the map goes into Sniper's favor as he has a better concave, and HyuN is forced to retreat. HyuN rebuilds hydralisks and forces another fight with Sniper, who retreats instead of facing HyuN head-on. Sniper loses the majority of his forces and is overwhelmed by HyuN's aggressive hydralisks and roaches, which completely decimate whatever he has left. Sniper gg's.

Game Six on Daybreak

Both players open similarly, going hatch first followed by a spawning pool, two drones in gas, and a baneling nest. Sniper goes on the offensive as he morphs banelings. HyuN also morphs banelings, but he uses them to protect his third.

HyuN's production pulls ahead of Sniper as he has been mining at the third much longer than Sniper. Sniper attempts to catch up with mutalisk harass, but it does minimal damage to HyuN's economy. HyuN responds by teching into hydralisks and building infestors, which render Sniper's mutalisks useless.

Sniper transitions into roaches and infestors, charges forward into HyuN's third, and lands immaculate fungal growths, destroying HyuN's army. Miraculously, HyuN holds, but he is far behind. HyuN cannot recover; he gg's.

Final Game on Cloud Kingdom

Once again, both players open hatch first. However, Sniper goes for gas first. Baneling nests are created and ling speed researched virtually at the same time followed by early lairs. HyuN techs up to infestors slightly earlier than Sniper, however, he loses the majority of his zerglings due to mismanagement.

HyuN takes a fourth base extremely early while teching to hydralisks. Sniper continues to build up his army of roaches and infestors. Sniper wins a large engagement at fourteen and a half minutes and is now far ahead in supply. HyuN remakes drones as he lost a lot of mining time.

HyuN goes on the offensive and charges at Sniper's fourth. He has a better concave and his hydralisks deal massive amounts of damage to Sniper. HyuN is relentless but forced to retreat due to Sniper's reinforcements. Then Sniper evens up the game by taking out HyuN's fourth, and HyuN now fights from behind as Sniper has a superior economy.

There is a huge battle at HyuN's third. HyuN destroys Sniper's army with his hydralisks and chases down Sniper's remaining infestors. He takes them out with perfect fungals. However, Sniper still has his secret base at the bottom right of the map. HyuN finally scouts it at twenty-seven minutes.

Again, both Zerg armies battle in the middle of the map. Fungals dropped, infested Terrans spawned, roaches charge forward. Sniper completely obliterates HyuN's forces and HyuN can do nothing but run. HyuN has zero economy. Sniper chases down the last remaining roaches and HyuN gg's. Sniper becomes the newest GSL champion.

Final Score: Sniper 4 > 3 HyuN
