Independent game developers in Australia have a new opportunity to get their games off the ground thanks to a recently launched mobile games accelerator.
Right Pedal Studios, based in Brisbane, is being managed by Aussie industry veteran John Passfield and seeded by River City Labs founder Stephen Baxter. The project will offer working capital of up to $50,000, office space, mentorship and an alumni program for successful applicants developing on the iOS or Android platforms. This kind of incubator opportunity for indies is unprecedented in Australia.
Right Pedal's line up of mentors reads like a who's who of the Australian games industry, including Morgan Jaffit of Defiant Development, Dan Vogt of Halfbrick, Matt Hall of KlickTock, David Zwierzchaczewski, Application Engineer for Media and Entertainment at Autodesk, Gordon Moyes, who oversees Griffith University's game program, Pras Moorthy of Kixeye, and Baxter and Passfield themselves.
“Australia is home to some of the greatest mobile game developers in the world and we’re excited to help up and coming developers reach their potential.” said Baxter in a press release.
We want to team up with smart developers working on great games. Our goal is to help them where we can and allow them to focus on making the best game possible.” said Passfield.
Right Pedal Studios will fund small teams of 2 to 5 developers making games fo iOS or Android in exchange for a fraction of equity in each game. Interested teams can apply here.
