Rise of the Apes Director in Talks for The Equalizer

Rise of the Planet of the Apes director Rupert Wyatt is currently in talks to helm The Equalizer, Sony's adaptation of the 1980s TV series that has Denzel Washington attached to star.

The Hollywood Reporter confirms that Wyatt is in early discussions with the studio, which means Sony's long and arduous search for a director could be coming to a close. Nicolas Winding Refn (Drive) was originally attached to direct, but he later dropped out due to friction with Washington. More recently, names like Peter Berg (Battleship) have also been tossed around.

In the film, Washington plays Robert McCall, a retired intelligence officer who helps those in need. While maintaining a low profile as a Home Depot employee, one of his kind acts gets him tangled up with the Russian mob.
