According to a letter intercepted by 9to5Mac, Apple has begun distributing checks for iPhone 4 users involved in last year’s class action lawsuit related to the device’s temperamental antenna. At the heart of "Antennagate" was the iPhone 4’s external antenna, which caused signal problems severe enough to justify a class action suit. The $15 checks must be cashed by July 16, 2013. After that date, they'll be considered void.
Unsurprisingly, the explanation that Steve Jobs offered to unhappy users in 2010—they were simply holding their phones the “wrong way”—failed to placate Apple’s dissatisfied customers. After apologizing for the issue, Apple found itself at the center of a lawsuit that was resolved in February of 2012. The terms of the settlement offered customers the option to choose between a free bumper and a $15 check.
April is proving to a be an expensive month for Apple. Less than two weeks ago, it was revealed that the company had been ordered to pay out $53 million in another class action lawsuit related to warranty issues with early iPhone models.
