Disney Showcases Marvel, Muppets, Maleficent and More at CinemaCon

Disney played a sizzle reel at Wednesday's CinemaCon for its upcoming slate of movies, which included brief first looks at footage from Thor: The Dark World, Maleficent, The Muppets ... Again!, Saving Mr. Banks, Frozen, Planes, and Pixar's The Good Dinosaur.

The Thor 2 snippets showed Natalie Portman's Jane Foster in Asgard, as well as Chris Hemsworth's title character in hammer-swinging action. There were no images shown from Captain America: The Winter Soldier (snippets of Chris Evans in The Avengers substituted), Guardians of the Galaxy or Ant-Man, although the forthcoming Iron Man 3 popped up in the sizzle reel.

Angelina Jolie looked suitably sexy and sinister vamping it up in quick clips from Maleficent, which retells the story of Sleeping Beauty from the villainess' perspective. There were a few flashes of footage from Frozen, which looks to be another animated Disney gem, as well as a mention of Tomorrowland, Brad Bird and Damon Lindelof's secretive science fiction pic starring George Clooney.

The studio's Star Wars plans were mentioned during the presentation; click here for those details.

Ricky Gervais and Tina Fey joined Kemit, Miss Piggy and the Muppets gang in a couple of brief snippets from the forthcoming sequel, while attendees also got a quick gander at Pixar's forthcoming The Good Dinosaur. Disney brass half-jokingly promised the film will make you forget about the dinos of Jurassic Park.

Tom Hanks channeled Walt Disney is the brief look given at Saving Mr. Banks, which recounts Disney's years-long quest to get the rights from author P.L. Travers (Emma Thompson) to turn her story Mary Poppins into a feature film. Of all the films showcased here, this was the one that had the air of prestige and possible Oscar glory to it. The drama also stars Colin Farrell, Paul Giamatti, Jason Schwartzman, B.J. Novak, Rachel Griffiths, Bradley Whitford, and Ruth Wilson.
