What Do You Think About No Nintendo Conference at E3?

News broke yesterday that Nintendo won't be hosting a major press conference at E3. While the news wasn't shocking to everyone, it left many fans puzzled as to what could be coming next from Nintendo.

According to Nintendo President Satoru Iwata, "We decided not to host a large-scale presentation targeted at everyone in the international audience where we announce new information as we did in the past, Instead, at the E3 show this year, we are planning to host a few smaller events that are specifically focused on our software lineup for the U.S. market. There will be one closed event for American distributors, and we will hold another closed hands-on experience event, for mainly the Western gaming media."

Is Nintendo avoiding taking on Sony and Microsoft? Will investing less in E3 and more in events like Nintendo Direct pay off in the long run? We asked you on Twitter what you thought of the news, here are some of your best reactions:

Can Nintendo Direct Fill The Gap?

@ign Nintendo direct reaches more people. I don't understand the necessity of e3.

@ign I'd rather have several well-planned announcements spread out over the year than 1 that covers a full year, badly. Good choice I say.

@ign It doesn't really matter. Nintendo's conference haven't been their focus for about 2 years now. It's all about Nintendo Direct.

@ign Satisfaction, Directs are waaay better than their last E3 conferences.

@ign Every1 @ #E32013 already knows what the Wii U is, they will still show games and have Nintendo Direct. They'll be fine.

— Joe (@PdogGray) April 25, 2013

@ign They don't seem to understand that Nintendo Direct doesn't have the marketing capabilities that an E3 does. Almost #Throwinginthetowel

Can Nintendo Compete With Next-Gen?

@ign I may be wrong, but it's never been clear to me if Nintendo's competing Mic. & Sony. Maybe running their own conference is good.

— David Langley (@the_otherdavid) April 25, 2013

@ign They've nothing major to announce when you compare it with Microsoft and Sony, no real surprise. But people may lose faith and interest

— Alex Quigley (@Quagers13) April 25, 2013

@ign cowardly and disappointing. They accepted defeat in this next-gen and are trying to minimize the damage.

@ign Nintendo is becoming the new Sega in my eyes. Seems like the Big 3 might be down to the Big 2 and the Little 1.

Does Nintendo Have Something Up Its Sleeve?

@ign Nintendo must be confident, which makes me excited to see what they'll be rolling out.

— Jeff Gordon (@GentleJeffrey) April 25, 2013

@ign They'd better hope that whatever they will be doing grab enough attention!

Will This Lead To Nuclear War?

@ign I'm going to cry every night until they decide to change their foolish mistake.
